Contribute II: A film by Charles R. Diaz
This short documentary features speakers from New Roots News’ second Contribute event at The Studio@620.
About the people:
Bob Devin Jones
Co-Founder/Artistic Director of Studio @620
Jones’ motto: “The answer is always yes.” A cultural centerpiece of the St. Petersburg community, The Studio@620 is where people from all walks of life collaborate, share experiences, and engage one another in visual and performing arts, and community events. Bringing together artists, audiences and volunteers, the bricks and mortar on 620 First Ave. S. houses not just arts and entertainment, but possibility.

Reuben Pressmen & Hunter Payne
Founders of Swings Tampa Bay
Since hoisting one simple red swing in August of 2011, the duo behind Swings have quickly become international and award-winning champions of community building. To come upon one of their handmade swings “in the wild” causes an instant change in perspective, and an unexpected but wholly welcomed feeling of hope. As a result Swings has quickly spread beyond the city limits – even as far as Holland.

Olga Bof
Founder/President of Keep Saint Petersburg Local
Every dollar spent with locally-owned businesses generates more than three times the local economic impact as compared to spending with national chains. With that in mind, KSPL is on a mission to provide advocacy, education and support to the locally-owned independent businesses of St. Petersburg, with hopes of strengthening the local economy and leveling the playing field.

Jason Sowell
Founder/President of Current
Started the Laundry Love Project assisting low-income people by meeting a basic and often overlooked need – washing clothes and linens. Partnering with local laundromats, Current pays for laundry fees, and Current’s members and volunteers visit with the participants and provide entertainment for their children. To date they’ve helped more than 700 families.
